The recovery ladder: from first step to full strength
Good rehabilitation moves in order. Each step builds on the one before it, and goals are measured so progress is clear.
Assess
Pain, movement, strength and balance are measured.
Relieve
Reduce pain and swelling with hands-on care and modalities.
Restore range
Stretching and guided movement regain joint motion.
Build strength
Progressive exercise, balance and gait training.
Return to life
Work, sport and daily tasks, with a home plan.
Why international patients choose India for rehabilitation
Rehabilitation takes weeks and can be costly or hard to access at home. India offers daily therapy under specialist supervision at much lower cost, often close to the hospital where you had surgery.
Often 60–80% less
Compared with typical USA and UK prices for similar therapy programs.
Daily therapy
Programs often include therapy sessions every day, not once a week.
Doctor and therapists
Rehabilitation physicians, physiotherapists and dietitians work together.
Combined with surgery
Surgery, rehab, visa letter, interpreter and stay planned as one trip.

Cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation
Supervised exercise and education after heart surgery, heart attack or lung disease. See Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Children’s physiotherapy
Therapy for cerebral palsy, developmental delay, club foot and recovery after pediatric surgery. See Pediatric Surgery.
Women’s health and pelvic floor

Questions patients ask about rehab in India
Can I have rehabilitation in India after surgery abroad?
Yes, if your surgeon agrees you are fit to fly. Share your operation notes and precautions so the therapy team can follow them. Many patients come once their wounds are healing and they can travel safely.
How long does rehabilitation take?
It varies. Knee or hip replacement rehab usually takes several weeks, sports injury programs 2 to 6 weeks and neurological recovery longer. A rehabilitation doctor gives a clear estimate after reviewing your records.
How much does physiotherapy cost in India?
A session may cost about $15 to $50, and inpatient rehab about $100 to $300 per day including therapy. You receive a written estimate before travel.
Do I need to stay in hospital?
Not always. Some programs are inpatient, while others are daily outpatient therapy while you stay at a nearby hotel or serviced apartment. The doctor advises which suits you.
Can I combine joint replacement and rehab in one trip?
Yes. Many patients have surgery and the first weeks of therapy in the same hospital, which helps the team follow your progress.
Do hospitals have hydrotherapy or robotic therapy?
Some do. Availability depends on the hospital. Ask us, and we will check which centers offer hydrotherapy, gait robots or other equipment.
Can I continue therapy at home afterwards?
Yes. You leave with an exercise plan for your own physiotherapist, and we arrange video reviews to track your progress.
