Can chronic pain be treated in India as an international patient?
Yes. Pain specialists, usually anesthesiologists with pain training, in India’s accredited hospitals treat back, neck, joint, nerve, headache and cancer pain with image-guided nerve blocks and injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, medicines and rehabilitation. Treatment starts with finding the source of the pain. Najmcare reviews your reports free within 24 hours and arranges your visa letter, transport and stay. See our Medical Visa Guide.
The pain relief ladder
Pain care moves from the simplest, safest treatments to more advanced ones only when needed, and always alongside movement and rehabilitation.
Find the source
History, exam and the right scans.
Medicines and therapy
Non-opioid options, physiotherapy and education.
Targeted blocks
Image-guided injections to calm the pain source.
Advanced procedures
Radiofrequency and stimulation for lasting relief.
Restore function
Rehabilitation, sleep, mood and a home plan.
Why international patients choose India for pain care
Waiting lists for pain clinics can be long, and advanced procedures are costly in many countries. India offers experienced pain specialists, image-guided procedures and a full rehabilitation team.
Often 60–80% less
Compared with typical USA and UK prices for blocks and procedures.
Assessment to treatment in days
Scans, diagnostic blocks and procedures often fit into one stay.
Pain, spine and rehab together
Pain doctors, spine surgeons and therapists plan care jointly.
Travel made simple
Visa letter, interpreter, comfortable transport and a hotel near the hospital.
Pain conditions we treat
Select a type of pain to see typical signs, tests, treatment and the time you may need in India.
Back and neck pain, including sciatica
The most common reasons people seek a pain clinic, caused by discs, joints, nerves or muscles. See Spine Surgery.
Joint pain and arthritis (knee, hip, shoulder)
Pain from wear-and-tear or inflammation. Injections and nerve treatments can ease pain and delay or avoid surgery in some cases. See Joint Replacement.
Nerve pain (neuropathy, post-herpes pain, trigeminal neuralgia)
Burning, shooting or electric pain from damaged nerves, which often responds to different medicines than ordinary pain.
Headache, migraine and facial pain
Pain specialists and neurologists find the type of headache and use medicines, nerve blocks and device options. See Neurology.
Cancer pain and palliative care
Pain from cancer or its treatment can usually be controlled well. Care also supports comfort, sleep and mood. See Cancer Care.
Pain after surgery or injury
Pain that lasts after an operation or injury can be nerve-related and needs a different approach from short-term pain.
Complex regional pain syndrome and fibromyalgia
Conditions where the nervous system amplifies pain. Care combines medicines, graded movement and mind-body methods. See Rheumatology.
Pelvic and abdominal pain
Long-lasting pain in the pelvis, belly or genital area, which can need a mix of gynecology, urology, gut and pain care.
How strong is your pain?
Slide to your usual pain, from 0 (no pain) to 10 (the worst you can imagine), and pick how long you have had it. This is a guide only, not a diagnosis.
Treatments and procedures
Nerve blocks and epidurals
Image-guided injections that calm the nerve or joint causing pain, used for diagnosis and treatment.
Radiofrequency ablation
Heat applied to the tiny nerves that carry pain from spine or knee joints, with relief often lasting months.
Joint and soft-tissue injections
Steroid, hyaluronic acid or platelet-rich plasma in selected joints and tendons.
Spinal cord stimulation
A small implanted device that changes pain signals, for selected patients with long-term nerve or back pain.
Intrathecal pumps
A pump delivers tiny medicine doses near the spinal cord, mainly for severe cancer pain or spasticity.
Rehabilitation and mind-body care
Physiotherapy, sleep care, counselling and pacing. See Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation.
Travelling to India with pain medicines
Rules on strong pain medicines differ between countries. A little checking avoids problems at the airport.
- Strong painkillers such as opioids are controlled drugs. Check Indian rules and your airline’s rules before you fly.
- Carry your original prescription and a signed doctor’s letter listing each medicine by its generic name.
- Keep all medicines in their original packs, in hand baggage.
- Bring only what you need for the trip, plus a small extra supply.
- Do not stop or change doses suddenly. The pain doctor will review your plan.
- Tell us your medicines before you travel, and we help confirm the paperwork.

Questions patients ask about pain management in India
Can chronic pain be cured?
Some pain, such as a pinched nerve, can be treated at its source. Long-term pain is often managed rather than cured, with the aim of less pain, better movement and a better life. A specialist plan combines several treatments.
Are nerve blocks and spinal injections safe?
When done by trained specialists under X-ray or ultrasound guidance, they are generally safe. Like any procedure they carry small risks, such as bleeding, infection or temporary weakness, which the doctor explains first.
How much does pain treatment cost in India?
A consultation may start near $30, a nerve block about $150 to $500, and radiofrequency ablation about $400 to $1,200. A stimulator implant costs more. You receive a written estimate before travel.
Do I need surgery for back pain?
Often not. Most back pain improves with exercise, medicines and targeted injections. Surgery is considered when there is weakness, serious nerve compression or no response to other treatment.
Can I bring my pain medicines to India?
Usually yes, with the original prescription and a doctor’s letter, in original packs. Strong opioids have stricter rules, so check before you fly and tell us your medicines in advance.
How long does radiofrequency ablation relief last?
Relief often lasts several months to a year or more, and the procedure can be repeated. Results vary, so a test block first helps confirm it is likely to work for you.
How long should I stay in India?
Most assessments and procedures need 3 to 7 days. A pain program with rehabilitation may need 1 to 2 weeks. The specialist advises after reviewing your reports.
How fast can I get an opinion?
Within 24 hours of receiving your reports. The opinion is free and carries no obligation.
