Why the world travels to India for cardiac surgery

India is one of the largest cardiac care markets in the world. Surgeons here perform thousands of procedures every year, so experience is high and waiting lists are short.

Conditions we help with

Whether you have a diagnosis or only symptoms, a specialist can review your case before you travel.

Coronary artery disease

Narrowed or blocked arteries causing chest pain or heart attacks.

Valve disease

Stiff or leaking aortic, mitral, tricuspid or pulmonary valves.

Rhythm disorders

Atrial fibrillation, fast or slow heartbeats and heart block.

Heart failure

A weak or enlarged heart muscle, including cardiomyopathy.

Congenital defects

Holes in the heart (ASD, VSD), Tetralogy of Fallot and other birth conditions, in children and adults.

Aortic disease

Aneurysm and dissection of the body’s main artery.

Treatments in detail

Open a treatment to see what it involves, how long you stay and how recovery goes.

Angioplasty and stenting

A thin tube is guided through the wrist or groin to the blocked artery. A balloon opens it and a drug-coated stent keeps it open. It is done under local anaesthesia and most people walk the next day.

Coronary bypass surgery (CABG)

Healthy vessels from the leg, arm or chest wall are used to route blood around blocked arteries. Many centres offer beating-heart and minimally invasive options for suitable patients.

Valve repair, replacement and TAVI

Surgeons repair your own valve where possible, or replace it with a mechanical or tissue valve. TAVI places a new aortic valve through a catheter, without opening the chest, for selected patients.

Good to know

Medical visa

Most foreign patients travel on an Indian medical visa with a hospital letter. Rules change, so confirm before booking.

Flying home

Your surgeon decides. Stent patients may fly in about a week; open-heart patients usually wait 2โ€“3 weeks.

Bring a companion

A family member helps with comfort, decisions and the journey home.

Emergency? If you have chest pain, severe breathlessness or fainting now, call local emergency services immediately (112 in India, 108 for an ambulance). Do not wait for an online reply.

Questions people ask

Is heart surgery in India safe?

Accredited hospitals follow international protocols and publish outcomes comparable to major centres abroad. Your personal risk depends on your age and condition, and your surgeon will explain it clearly.

Why is it so much cheaper?

Hospital running costs, salaries and many device prices are lower. It is not lower-quality care; many implants are the same global brands.

Can I get an opinion before I travel?

Yes. Send your reports and a cardiologist reviews them before you decide anything.

Is the price fixed?

Most procedures are quoted as a package. Complications or extra days can add cost, and your coordinator will explain what is included.

Are children treated too?

Yes, major cities have paediatric cardiac surgeons and dedicated children’s heart units.
