Pediatric Surgery in India
Safe, gentle surgery for babies, children and teenagers: hernia, appendicitis, undescended testis, newborn and congenital defects, urinary and bowel conditions, tumours and injuries, using keyhole techniques where possible, by paediatric surgeons and child-focused anaesthetists in JCI and NABH accredited hospitals.
Can my child have surgery in India as an international patient?
Yes. India’s JCI and NABH accredited hospitals have paediatric surgeons, paediatric anaesthetists, paediatric urologists and paediatric ICUs who operate on newborns, infants, children and teenagers for hernia, appendicitis, undescended testis, bowel and urinary conditions, congenital defects, tumours and injuries. Keyhole (laparoscopic) and robotic techniques are used where suitable to reduce pain and scars. NajmCare reviews your child’s reports and scans free within 24 hours and arranges visa letters, transport, family stay and interpreter support.

Planning your child’s surgery trip to India
Careful planning keeps your child safe and calm.
- Bring all scans, reports and a medicine and allergy list for your child.
- Tell us about fever, cough or cold before you travel, since these can delay anaesthesia.
- Follow the fasting instructions exactly on the day of surgery.
- Bring comfort toys, snacks and clothes that are easy to change after surgery.
- Ask when it is safe to fly. After abdominal surgery, long flights may need to wait.
- Book a hotel near the hospital with space for a parent to stay.

Questions parents ask about child surgery in India
Can my child have surgery in India as an international patient?
Yes. Accredited hospitals operate on children from many countries, with paediatric surgeons, child-safe anaesthesia and paediatric ICUs, and we support the whole family.
How much does child surgery cost in India?
Simple operations such as a hernia repair cost about $700 to $1,800, and a keyhole appendix removal about $1,200 to $2,800. Complex newborn or liver operations cost more. You receive a written estimate before you travel.
Is keyhole surgery safe for children?
Yes, when done by a paediatric surgeon trained in keyhole techniques. It usually means smaller scars, less pain and an earlier return to normal life, though some operations are better done openly.
At what age should an undescended testis be treated?
Surgery is usually advised between 6 and 18 months of age to protect fertility and lower risk. If the testis has not come down by 6 months, see a paediatric surgeon or urologist.
Is anaesthesia safe for children?
Paediatric anaesthetists use child-safe drugs and monitoring, and risks are very low in healthy children. Your child is assessed beforehand, and play preparation and a parent’s presence at induction help reduce fear where the hospital allows.
When can my child fly home after surgery?
After simple surgery such as a hernia repair, usually within 3 to 5 days, and after keyhole appendix removal within 1 to 2 weeks. After bowel or abdominal surgery your surgeon advises, since long flights and pressure changes matter.
Can my baby have surgery in the first weeks of life?
Yes, for conditions that need early repair. Newborn surgery is done in hospitals with a NICU and paediatric surgical team, and we help families decide whether to treat locally or travel.
Can parents stay with the child?
We help with visa letters, hotels near the hospital and, where the hospital allows, a parent’s presence in the ward and recovery room. ICU visiting rules depend on the hospital.
How fast can I get a surgeon’s opinion?
