Patient questions

Questions patients ask about critical care and other specialties in India

Clear answers for international patients and families.

Can international patients get ICU and critical care in India?

Yes. India’s JCI and NABH accredited hospitals have adult, cardiac, neuro, paediatric and newborn intensive care units staffed by intensivists, nurses and respiratory therapists, with ventilators, dialysis and advanced life support. NajmCare reviews the patient’s reports free and prioritises urgent cases, then coordinates the hospital, transfer, medical visa letter and family stay.

How can a critically ill patient be transferred to India?

The treating doctors share a medical summary with the Indian hospital, which reviews the case and accepts the patient. A fit-to-fly assessment then decides the safest transport, usually a medical air ambulance or an escorted stretcher flight, followed by an ambulance from the airport directly to the ICU. NajmCare helps coordinate each step.

How much does an air ambulance to India cost?

Costs depend heavily on distance, aircraft type, medical crew and equipment, so there is no single price. Quotes from air ambulance providers can run from several thousand to tens of thousands of US dollars. Check whether your travel or health insurance covers medical evacuation, and ask for written quotes.

How much does ICU care cost in India per day?

Indicative private hospital ICU bed charges are about US$250 to 900 per day, depending on the hospital and unit, with ventilator, dialysis, medicines, tests and procedures usually charged extra. Newborn and paediatric ICU rates are similar. You receive a written estimate and regular updates.

Are Indian ICUs equipped with ventilators and ECMO?

Leading accredited hospitals have ventilators, non-invasive ventilation, continuous monitoring, renal replacement therapy and, in selected centres, ECMO and transplant ICUs. Availability differs by hospital, so NajmCare matches the patient’s needs to a hospital that can provide them.

Can family members stay with a critically ill patient in India?

Family visiting rules vary by hospital and unit, and are stricter in intensive care. Family members can stay close by in accommodation we arrange near the hospital, and doctors give regular updates. Related caregivers can travel on attendant visas, and we guide the paperwork.

What other specialties does NajmCare cover besides the main ones?

NajmCare helps with dermatology, mental health and de-addiction care, rheumatology and immune diseases, paediatrics and newborn care, geriatric medicine, sleep medicine, infectious diseases, palliative care and more. If you do not see your condition, send your reports and we will find the right specialist.

Can I get mental health or addiction treatment in India as a foreign patient?

Yes. Psychiatrists, psychologists and de-addiction centres offer assessment, therapy, medicines and supervised detox and rehabilitation programmes. Treatment works best with long-term follow-up, and anyone in immediate crisis should seek emergency help straight away.

Is paediatric and newborn intensive care available in India?

Yes. Many accredited hospitals have paediatric ICUs and NICUs with newborn ventilation, phototherapy, specialist neonatologists and parent support. Send your child’s reports for a free review.

How fast can I get an opinion for an urgent case?

Urgent cases are prioritised. Send the medical summary, latest reports and scans by WhatsApp, and a specialist reviews them as quickly as possible, normally within 24 hours, free and without obligation.
