Planning your checkup trip to India
A short, well planned visit gives you results and answers in one trip.
- Plan for 3 to 4 days in total: arrival and rest, the checkup day or days, and a review day to discuss results.
- Arrive a day early if you are crossing time zones, so fasting tests are not affected by jet lag.
- Bring previous reports, scans on disc, a list of medicines with generic names and your vaccination record.
- Tell the team in advance about pregnancy, kidney problems, allergies to contrast dye, implants or a pacemaker.
- Women should avoid booking mammography or Pap tests during menstruation, and the team will advise the best days.
- Add specialist visits, such as heart, diabetes or gynaecology, to the same trip so findings can be explained at once.
- We arrange airport pick-up, an interpreter, a hotel near the hospital and your medical visa invitation letter.

Questions patients ask about diagnostics and health checkups in India
Clear answers for international patients and families.
Can international patients get a full health checkup and diagnostic tests in India?
Yes. India’s JCI and NABH accredited hospitals offer complete health checkup packages and advanced diagnostics, including blood tests, MRI, CT, PET-CT, ultrasound, mammography, cardiac tests and endoscopy, with specialist consultations and reports in English. NajmCare reviews your history free within 24 hours, suggests the right package, then arranges the hospital, medical visa letter, transport and stay.
How much does a health checkup cost in India?
Indicative costs are about US$100 to 250 for a basic checkup, US$250 to 500 for a comprehensive checkup and US$500 to 1,000 for an executive checkup. Women’s, men’s, senior, cardiac and cancer screening packages are usually priced between US$150 and 1,200 depending on the tests included.
How long does a health checkup take, and when do I get my results?
Most basic and comprehensive checkups are completed in one day, and executive packages may take two days. Blood test results usually come the same day or within 24 hours, imaging reports within 24 hours, and biopsy or special tests within a few days. Plan 3 to 4 days in India so you can discuss the results with your doctor.
Do I need to fast before my checkup, and how should I prepare?
Most blood tests for sugar and cholesterol need 8 to 12 hours of fasting, and some scans need fasting or a full bladder. Your hospital gives exact instructions when you book. Tell the team about regular medicines, allergies, pregnancy, kidney disease and any implants or pacemaker before tests.
Are laboratories and scan centres in India accurate and accredited?
Many leading hospital laboratories and imaging centres hold quality accreditation such as NABL or CAP, and the hospitals themselves are JCI or NABH accredited. NajmCare works with accredited hospitals and can confirm the accreditation of the laboratory used for your tests.
Do I need a full body MRI or PET-CT scan if I feel well?
Usually not. Whole-body scans in people without symptoms can find harmless changes that lead to extra tests and anxiety. Doctors normally choose tests based on your age, sex, family history and risk factors. Your physician will tell you which scans are truly useful for you.
Can I get a second opinion on my scans and reports from India?
Yes. Send your reports and scan images, ideally as DICOM files on a disc or secure link. A specialist and, if needed, a radiologist or pathologist review them. The opinion is free within 24 hours and carries no obligation.
Will my reports be in English, and can I share them with my doctor at home?
Yes. Reports are issued in English with a summary by your physician, and you receive digital copies you can share with your doctor. A video consultation is available to explain results and next steps.
Do I need a medical visa for a health checkup in India?
A medical visa is commonly used when you travel mainly for medical care, including diagnostic evaluation. NajmCare provides the hospital invitation letter and guides you on the visa type that fits your plan. Read our Medical Visa Guide for details.
Is the radiation from CT and PET-CT scans safe?
These scans use low radiation doses that are generally considered safe when medically needed, but unnecessary scans are avoided. Always tell the team if you are pregnant or might be pregnant, and share your previous scans so repeat radiation is minimised.
Can I combine a health checkup with specialist consultations?
Yes. Many patients add a heart, diabetes, gynaecology, gastroenterology or other specialist visit on the same trip so that any finding can be explained and treated quickly.
